Just as the FDA is convening an advisory committee
hearing (June 9-10) about whether to expand the marketing
license of antipsychotic drugs for children, Medscape
reports that compelling evidence from the early findings
of a study, Metabolic Effects of Antipsychotics in Children
that raise serious safety concerns about the use of
antipsychotics in children. A sobering earlier report
in the Los Angeles Times by Melissa Healy focused on
the scientific evidence against the increased use of
antipsychotic drugs. That it did not make waves is
testimony to the media's dependency on pharmaceutical
industry advertising revenues. "This is very worrisome;
frankly I have serious concerns about these drugs," says
Dr. Steven Nissen, who is chairman of the Cleveland
Clinic's cardiovascular medicine department and serves
as an ad hoc advisor for FDA panels.

A two-month-old baby girl died in her mother's arms
yesterday morning, hours after having her first vaccination.
Baby Cindy Apithy was bleeding from the nose and mouth
when she died. Her parents insisted yesterday that the
child's death was caused by the vaccine, although the
autopsy stated that she was smothered. The baby developed
a fever soon after the vaccine. The child's 38-year-old
father, Abenigo Apithy, an electrical technician, intends
to seek legal advice.

* MMR Vaccination Scheme Bullies UK Parents

The latest scheme to bully parents into giving their
children the MMR vaccination is to bar kids from school
unless they have had the measles, mumps and rubella jab.
How grotesque is that? Parents who decline the MMR jab
are not thoughtless, stupid or uncaring. They are unconvinced.
Privately, some doctors admit that the MMR jab can probably
do harm to children with pre-existing conditions.

Ten leading scientists in Europe have formed a Think Tank
for ME and will hold their first meeting on the 13th of
June. They want to initiate an effective research effort
to find the secret behind the mystery disease that cripples
an increasing number of lives. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis,
often referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), is
a disease which affects at least one million individuals
in the US, and an even greater number in Europe. Despite
the large number of people affected, there is a lack of
serious large-scale research initiatives focused on the
disease. The number of patients is rapidly increasing but
healthcare personnel lack knowledge about existing
research and possible treatments.
